A few advance words about the book...

“So funny because it is so accurate. Kahn and Gurwitch illuminate the insanity of marriage. They make you want to embrace your spouse for every reason you want to strangle them too.”
~Ben Stiller

“Although, after 11 1/2 years of pure, uninterrupted marital bliss, I don't relate at all to the subject matter, I still found Jeff and Annabelle's book to be hilarious.”
~Judd Apatow

“He said tomato, she said shut up, and I took a Vicodin to ease the pain from laughing so hard.”
~Sandra Tsing Loh, author of Mother on Fire

“Damn, marriage isn't supposed to be this much fun! If anyone is going to save marriage, it won't be James Dobson-it'll be Annabelle Gurwitch and Jeff Kahn.”
~Barbara Ehrenreich, author of Nickle and Dimed

“Oh now I get it. This whole sham of a marriage was not just for tax purposes, it was also to write and sell this immediately engaging book! I remember when Jeff first told me about Annabelle and the hazy, humid thermal cloud she wrapped is head in. I thought he was nuts. Turns out I was right (see pgs 1 - 250). After reading this book I feel sorry for both of them now. And that's quite an accomplishment.”
~David Cross, comedian

About The Authors

This memoir marks Jeff and Annabelle's first artistic collaboration.   You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, chronicles their marriage in a raw, honest and humorous way that is sure to strike terror and laughter in the hearts of any couple, as well as every single man and woman who is contemplating the connubial state.

Tomato/Shut Up illustrates how each spouse's perception of a relationship, and even the very same events, can be diametrically opposed. The essays cover all the landmines couples must negotiate including: sex, romance and intimacy (and the total lack thereof). Squabbling over finances. Parenting as a competitive sport.  The wacky wonderful world of in-laws.  The spirit draining non-vacation vacations of the harried and hardworking who can't ever seem to relax. The carefree joys of aging together, hitting that thick brick wall commonly referred to as “couple's therapy.” Annabelle and Jeff will also recount their unique, sincere-yet-unsentimental account of the miscues, missteps and misadventures in parenting during their son's four-year medical odyssey.  Their comic memoir, You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up, may be the only volume in the history of books about marriage that extols the virtues of complaining, co-dependence and drinking Pinot Noir in the loving and sincere attempt to stay married.

Annabelle and Jeff love telling the stories that make up this book but are still arguing over whether performing them together counts as “date night.”
